The meaning of Siousca (in case you were wondering).

Hopefully everyone had a safe and happy new year!

Not many people know this but landscape photography is why I originally picked up a camera in high school.  At that point I never had much of an interest in photographing people.  The house that I grew up in was nestled right along the Brandywine River and it was an amazingly beautiful location to spend my childhood.  I think I always recognized how unique of a place it was even as a kid and living there is probably what inspired my interest in taking photos.

I can remember my dad always telling me that Siousca was the Native American name for the area along the Brandywine River that we lived in.  The name is impossible to remember, hard to spell, and equally hard to pronounce (sigh-you-sca)...but it's sentimental and makes me think of home, my Dad, and why I picked up a camera in the first place.  So, I named the business after it, despite it being a marketing nightmare :)

Photographing people is now what I really find most rewarding but that doesn't mean that I don't still love working with nature every now and then too.  These were from my drive home on Thursday night, hope everyone has a great weekend!
